About

A Czech/Slovak FreeBSD group doing practical BSD work — drivers, embedded systems, and hardware enablement.

Our mission

FreeBSD is a rock-solid operating system, but hardware support sometimes lags behind Linux. We aim to close that gap by:

  1. Writing drivers for unsupported hardware
  2. Testing and documenting FreeBSD on modern machines
  3. Building embedded FreeBSD images for ARM and RISC-V platforms
  4. Contributing patches upstream to the FreeBSD project

Most of that work now runs through SoCBSD, a FreeBSD fork dedicated to SoC board bring-up, and through our ports tree.

Why FreeBSD?

  • Clean codebase — consistent style, well-documented kernel interfaces
  • Licensing — permissive BSD license, friendly to commercial and embedded use
  • Networking — FreeBSD’s network stack remains one of the best in the industry
  • ZFS — first-class ZFS support out of the box
  • Jails & bhyve — lightweight virtualization without the bloat

How to join

There is no application form. Pick a board you physically own, check what has already been done, and open an arena issue with a photo of the board and a serial capture of what it currently does.

Not a bring-up person? A board still needs its edge cases hunted, its man pages written, its boot logs verified, and its code reviewed by someone holding the same hardware. All of it counts.

One rule above the others: contributions are accepted only for hardware you actually have, in working condition, and every claim ships with a serial log. Untested code is how boards end up half-supported forever.
